Khloe Kardashian’s 40-Pound Weight Loss: How She Transformed Her Body Post-Divorce & Baby

Khloé Kardashian is reflecting on her 10-year weight loss journey.

The mom-of-two, 40, made some pretty famous lifestyle changes after splitting from her ex-husband Lamar Odom. And now, she’s addressing the accusations that she got weight loss surgery or went on diabetes drug Ozempic.

“Most people are like, ‘You got surgery because you lost all your weight.’ I’m like, ‘It’s been a 10-year process! What are you even saying?'” she explained to Bustle in December. “But even if some people get surgery or [get on] the Ozempic wave, I’m like, ‘Who cares!’ As long as people feel confident about themselves, who am I to judge?
“I’m just angry [Ozempic] wasn’t here 10 years ago!” she joked.

As The Kardashians entered its fifth season, Khloé revealed some of the alterations she’s made, including her diet and exercise changes.

“I genuinely wish to promote healthiness,” she said to cameras. “I am not concerning myself with the number on a scale. I simply believe that people need to be active and I don’t particularly care what your size is. You simply need to be healthy and stronger for yourself.”

Khloé was ‘confident’ prior to weight loss.

As a child, Khloé was “never in shape,” but she was athletic in build. “I’ve always been even chubby-like, athletic,” she told a May episode of the SHE MD podcast. “I’ve always played sports.”

But she was very self-assured. “In retrospect, when I was larger, I believed I was the hottest thing alive,” she explained to Bustle. “I was a lot more confident the larger I was, which is what’s absurd. And then the healthier I am, the more insecure I can be because I’m so critical of myself.”
Khloé dropped 40 pounds after her divorce from Lamar Odom.
The Kardashians star went through a very public divorce from former NBA star Lamar Odom starting back in 2013. After abandoning therapy amid a breach of privacy, she began going to the gym to cope.

“My weight loss journey started because I was getting a divorce,” she told Bustle. “I recall that I was seeing my therapist and the next thing I knew, something intimate that I shared with my therapist was in a tabloid. And I knew that my therapist shared it with a tabloid because there’s no way that this could have become public. So I quit seeing my therapist and I began going to the gym. I needed an outlet, but I didn’t trust anyone else anymore. And the only place that I ever felt safe was at the gym.”

She had earlier explained to InStyle (according to People) that she began hitting the gym because she “didn’t really know what to do” following her split from Lamar. “Of course, at first, you [have to] overcome that hump of it being so hard and something so new for you,” she explained. “But I felt so accomplished.”

Khloé’s body then began “changing” due to gym trips. “I loved the way I felt,” she explained to Bustle. “I loved pushing myself and challenging myself. And I’ve been doing it for 10-plus years now, and I love it.”

When she originally began going to the gym, Khloé explained that she “cared so much” about her weight. “Maybe [it’s] just being younger. I think you care about the scale. The scale effs with you. I don’t even look at a scale anymore. I think it’s really unhealthy. I haven’t in years. They’re just numbers,” she explained to SHE MD.

But these days, she just enjoys the “control” that it affords her. “I’m kinda of a control freak, but in life we can’t do everything,” she added. “But the gym, what I put into it, I know I’m gonna get out of it. And being a control freak—I’m proud of it.”

She exercises five times a week.

Khloé works out Monday to Friday, keeping the weekends off.

“Let me begin by saying that regardless of what time Khloé and I are working out, she’s always at the gym 30 minutes prior to stretching and getting ready, so that we actually have a good hour of exercising together,” her trainer Joel Bouraima told Kourtney Kardashian’s website Poosh. “And yes, even when we begin at 6 a.m., she’s in her gym at 5:30 a.m., stretched and ready for me.”

Khloé performs a series of HIIT exercises with Bouraima as her trainer but tends to set aside one day of the week for Pilates or simple cardio by herself. “I incorporate weightlifting into my cardiovascular interval workouts,” Khloé informed SHE MD.

On an episode of The Kardashians aired July 11, she explained how a rigorous routine of workouts combined with a healthy diet helps maintain her self-esteem, particularly while heading to a photo shoot.
“I do circuit training with cardio intervals. I’m constantly spiking my heart rate up and down,” Khloé explained. “For a shoot like that where I know I am going to be showing a lot of skin, I definitely work out much harder.”

On June 7, Khloé shared a compilation clip of a workout she had completed, with her kids even participating to do some agility ladder drills. In the caption, she asked individuals to “stay consistent” in their workouts.

“Be proud and patient with yourself ???? the small steps deserve praise too.” she said.

Khloe has a plain diet.

Khloé has undergone dietary adjustments with the assistance of celebrity nutritionist Philip Goglia.

She lost 11 pounds in one month by merely eliminating dairy, People reports. Goglia explains that the switch eliminates bloating, gas, and inflammation. He says eliminating dairy cleared up her skin, made her more energetic and decreased congestion.

Khloé outlined a normal day of eating for Byrdie that fits a low-carb diet recommended by Goglia.

She begins her day with a scoop of peanut butter and a scoop of jam before going to the gym. “If you’re exercising in the morning, you need some energy,” she explained to Byrdie.

Following her sweat session, she has eggs, fresh fruit and a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast. For lunch, Goglia suggests a grilled chicken breast, half a portion of a plain starch, a serving of vegetables and a salad with plain dressing. (Khloé usually has a vinaigrette.)

For dinner, she replaces her protein with a fish, which she eats with additional vegetables. Goglia suggests iron-rich vegetables, such as spinach, beets, or broccoli, Byrdie reports.

When she feels like snacking, Khloé tends to eat a handful of almonds or a slice of whatever fruit is in season.

She’s ‘trained’ her brain out of her old cravings.

Khloé explained to SHE MD that she learned how to alter the way she perceives food.

“My thing is more the food because I have the determination,” she explained. “So I had to retrain my mind as to what I could eat, what I couldn’t eat.”

Khloé told her that she “did every diet under the sun when I was younger,” but not anymore. “I’m in a good place body-wise that I like, I do sort of eat what I want, but because my brain is so trained, you don’t even want half of the crap or junk,” she stated. “Or if you do want something, like, pizza is my weakness.”
Khloé does not consume red meat, but she is a fan of “any fries,” she explained cameras on season five of The Kardashians.

“Come on. Who doesn’t love French fries?” she said. “Sweet potato fries, wedge fries…. Potato wedges! Especially barbecue chicken potato wedges? Love. McDonald’s fries? I could talk about it all day and all night.”

The Good American co-founder ended by stating that she “loves carbs.”

But Khloé’s now “in this different state of my mind” when it comes to food. “I’m never going to eat a full pizza, but it’s retraining your brain,” she said to SHE MD. “If your brain isn’t trained with your body, then you’re not doing anything.”

She found it simpler to lose baby weight after giving birth for the second time.
Khloé also spoke about losing weight after giving birth to her daughter, True, in 2018. “I was 204 pounds when I gave birth and I was like, ‘How am I going to do this again?'” she said to SHE MD of losing the baby weight. “Because I took so many years to do it the first time.”

But Khloé explained that she realized she had “all the tools in my toolbox” to lose the weight.

“I knew what to do and I actually lost my pregnancy weight so much faster than I ever did my regular fat weight,” she said.

Khloe says she has never taken Ozempic.

During a July 11 episode of The Kardashians, Khloé talked about her weight loss journey as she announced her new partnership with activewear company Fabletics. But she explained that she hasn’t used Ozempic.

When I was bigger, if they had Ozempic, I probably would’ve tried it. Because I experimented with any other thing,” Khloé averred. “I experimented with any fad weight loss fashion except for the actual thing which works. And that is lifestyle change.

Khloé has endured a lot after joining the public spotlight with Keeping Up With The Kardashians in 2007, particularly regarding body image. But she’s learned to identify what matters most when it comes to keeping her body healthy.

“I just want to promote healthiness,” Khloé explained. “I am not about the scale number. I just think that people should be active and I don’t really care what your size is. You should just be healthy and stronger for yourself.”

She isn’t a fan of commenting on people’s weight.
It hasn’t always been simple embarking on a very public health journey. On the 2021 Keeping Up With The Kardashians reunion, Khloé spoke about how being in the public eye has affected her body image.

“Early couple of seasons, I became insecure because of the public’s perceptions of me,” she said.

In the end, Khloé concluded that she must “do what’s best for me.”

“I was fat-shamed daily when I was larger, and then when I lost weight, people were like, ‘How dare you, you are so insecure, you’re following society,'” she explained to Bustle. “And I’m like, ‘Okay, you guys are so confusing!’ I realized you’ll never make everyone happy.”
